Day Two in the Mojave

I, the ever benevolent courier, decided I couldn't leave this town without some sort of protection or law. I was given two options for who could be the law around here. The NCR, or some guy named Meyers. I also heavily debated making Primm Slimm the Sheriff, but I didn't know nearly enough about tech to try that.

The New California Republic Meyers Primm Slim

I decided to visit Meyers first, and check his qualifications. Unfortunately, he was hanging in the middle of a camp of Powder Gangers, which did not help. I gave the gang members a few new holes, and interviewed Meyers for the position while making coffee. Meyers was willing to accept my offer, but only if I was able to get him a pardon with the NCR.

I told him I'd see what I could do, and decided to make a quick stop at Goodsprings to sell some things. I think the coffee was also irradiated so I paid Doc Mitchell to fix me up. I also talked to Sunny again, who apparently was going to show me how to use a gun, but I guess I left too early? Either way, she invited me to shoot some lizards by the windmills.

God that woman can shoot...

Sunny...

We encountered some lizards attacking a Goodsprings citizen, but luckily we managed to kill them before she got seriously hurt. Sunny gave me some money (even though I wouldn't object to a kiss instead), and taught me how to cook as well.

I never got around to selling anything so at this point we went to the Prospectors Saloon to visit Trudy. As soon as we walked in, we encountered a scene with Trudy and a Powder Ganger. As a courtesy towards Trudy, I did not shoot his brains out on her nice floors, but it was tempting.

Powder Ganger and Trudy

While I was trading with Trudy, she told me of a man named Ringo, who the gang was apparently after. I offered to help, because I already hate the Powder Gang. I'll gladly take up the opportunity to ruin their day.

She directed me to the gas station up the hill, where he was hiding.

Ringo

The first thing he proceeded to do was beat my ass in Caravan. I swear he was cheating or something because nobody is that good. Or maybe he just gave me a bad explanation on purpose. Either way, I lost 400 caps to this bastard. He was lucky that my hatred for the Powder Gang outweighed my irritation towards him.

I had to gather a few people before we could face the Powder Gang, but I only managed to get Sunny Smiles and Doc Mitchell to help me out. I'm not very good at talking, and might've gotten a little nervous in front of the others. These two were my ride or die though. My day ones.

Trudy also came to help, and we wiped the floor with these losers. Especially with Cheyenne going around biting their ankles. If I could take Cheyenne and Sunny with me, I would.

Cheyenne the doggo

At this point, I had to head out once again. I got some supplies from Doc, and traveled south towards another NCR outpost. Meyers was currently still my only viable canidate for Sherrif of Primm, and someone had to arrange his pardon. The NCR couldn't be trusted to help Primm, especially since they were supposedly stretched thin.

I ended up seeing the long line of caravans before I saw the outpost. Unfortunately I got a little nervous again when talking to the soldier, and they did not seem convinced by my stutter. No pardon for Meyers :(

I thought maybe doing them a favor would help, so I talked to Ranger Jackson, and cleared up some mutant ants near Primm. I also talked to a mysterious woman on the roof named Ranger Ghost. She was kind of intense, but asked me to check out Nipton. Since I was already headed that way, I decided it couldn't be too much trouble.

I did decide to hang around a little longer, and read some magazines in their lobby. One of them actually talked about the programming of bots like Primm Slim. I wasn't too serious about making them the Sherrif, but this was actually great news! I headed back north to Primm, and was able to reprogramm Primm Slim to be their new Sherrif. Some people might have looked at me weird, but it's not like a robot is going to go crazy and try to eliminate people! That's a human thing.

My job there was done, so I decided to check out Nipton and see what Ranger Ghost was talking about. I immediately ran into some crazy loon who babbled on about how he won the lottery.

Crazy gambler?

I quickly understood though as I entered the town. The entire town was in flames and I saw people hanging on crosses and heads on pikes. Honestly, I regretted this already.

Here is where I encountered the Legion for the first time. Or the first time that I remember. I could immediately tell that these guys wouldn't be as easy as the Powder Gang. Luckily, this guy names Vulpes Inculta deemed me useful, and let me live.

Vulpes Inculta

He told me to spread the word of their atrocities, which I probably would be doing anyways. What was interesting, was how he mentioned the mayor and officials of this town gave up innocent people, not expecting to be caught up in the slaughter. Unfortunately I did find his words true, as there were entries in the mayors computer stating this fact.

I was a bit jumpy after this but we trek on! Night did fall at this point though so I camped out a good distance from Nipton. I don't want to be there if the Legion decides to come back.

Shaken and Spooked,

Jackie
